We can generate Hydrogen and oxygen in your house it is very funny we can do this simple experiment with the devices available in your house. 
What all you need is
1.One 6V Battery 2. wire 3.two iron nails 4 two empty plastic bottles, 5 salt etc.6 one basin 
Now fill the two bottles with watter and put the bottle necks inversely in water in a basin. open the caps in the water, add small amount of salt to promote electrolysis connect two wires to two nails and put one nail in one bottle each. see that the bottles are in basin water only.  Now connect the wires of nails to two electrodes of 6V Battery.  You will see that gases in two bottles will generate from the nails.  The water in the bottles will flow into basin and replaces with gases. The anode -ve will get Hydrogen and the cathode +ve will get oxygen.  Now you can test the gases with bottles.
